At The Official Star Trek Las Vegas Convention, your Mission Log hosts along with Rod Roddenberry, Clint Howard and our host, explorer, science enthusiast and Tiki expert Jonathan Knowles, unveiled the recipes for Tranya.
First considered at Tiki Oasis, the recipes are based on the competing stories that the prop-master on “The Corbomite Maneuver” used either grapefruit or apricot juice. We present those here along with one recipe that uses both in the true spirit of IDIC.
Relive the Interplanetary Tranya Symposium and Cocktail Hour by mixing your own, then kick back while you contemplate the long history of boozy libations in science fiction.

Crowd voted winner: Grapefruit Forward

 

Tranya (Grapefruit Forward)

2.0 oz Angostura 7 Year rum (of the sponsor rums this will work best)
0.5 oz. Fresh squeezed lime juice (Persian limes, not key limes)
2.0 oz Ocean Breeze White Grapefruit 100% juice
0.5 oz Depaz Cane Syrup (demerara syrup)
0.5 oz John D. Taylor Velvet Falernum
0.25 oz St. Elizabeth Allspice Dram
2.0 oz Vita Coco coconut water
Stick blend all ingredients with crushed ice. Garnish with fresh mint sprig.

Tranya (Apricot Forward)

2.0 oz Angostura 7 Year rum (of the sponsor rums this will work best)
0.5 oz. Fresh squeezed lime juice (Persian limes, not key limes)
2.0 oz Kern’s Apricot Nectar
0.5 oz Depaz Cane Syrup (demerara syrup)
0.5 oz John D. Taylor Velvet Falernum
0.25 oz St. Elizabeth Allspice Dram
2.0 oz Vita Coco coconut water
Stick blend all ingredients with crushed ice. Garnish with fresh mint sprig.

1.0 oz Kern’s Apricot Nectar
1.0 oz Ocean Breeze White Grapefruit 100% juice
0.5 oz Depaz Cane Syrup (demerara syrup)
0.5 oz John D. Taylor Velvet Falernum
0.25 oz St. Elizabeth Allspice Dram
2.0 oz Vita Coco coconut water

    I second Gail’s desire for a non-alcoholic Tranya. Sounds tasty otherwise…

      I mean I suppose you could just combine all the ingredients EXCEPT the alcohol, but then you’d have to find something to replace the alcohol flavor wise I suppose.

        Good point. Maybe it just isn’t meant to be. I don’t care for the taste of alcohol so finding a substitute may change the intent of the originators of the drink to such an extent that it’s no longer “tranya.” Thanks for the feedback!
